Summer 2021
Summary
I thoroughly enjoyed taking this English class over the summer of 2021. This experience consisted of writing three essays and interact with related reading and writing materials to help us formulate our essays. I feel as though my critical reading and writing, argumentative, and analytical skills were strengthened in the process. Having developed my analytical thinking skills a bit more, I can see how it would relate to my career and future life in general. Prior to this experience, the English classes I have taken taught me basic reading comprehension and writing, while analytics and research were heavy focuses for this class. This seminar was more in-depth and I learned and developed skills such as research inquiry, rhetorical sensitivity, and critical thinking.
I also developed my personal writing style a bit more and learned how to incorporate personal touches and anecdotes into my writing when appropriate. I had an amazing professor for this class who was so helpful in guiding me in my writing to make it more engaging and concise. Through the process of revising my writing from the rough draft to the final draft, my professor and peers' comments were always helpful and advised me in the process of self-reflection. Reflection was a large part of this experience and it was a valuable lesson each time between essays. We also utilized discussion boards frequently, which was a useful tool to facilitate peer discussion. These discussion boards were valuable to my experience as I was able to converse and bounce ideas off my peers, and even have them revise my essays.
Below, in the pencil icon, I have linked the Literacy Narrative essay I wrote which earned me a 98/100 final score. I chose to include this essay because the concept of literacy appearing in ways other than just reading and writing was a difficult concept to fully understand and write about, but I was able to do it and I'm proud of the final product. It also includes a personal story and image, which I feel is perfect to showcase on my honors portfolio.
